Who trained these guys? Sheesh!

From http://dissent.blogspot.com :

Our Nation Is Insane...

OMIGOD, what is next? Now we have police jailing an 11 year old girl for felony assault. Her "crime" was throwing one stone at a group of boys who were bombarding her with water balloons. She got lucky, hit ONE of them, and he bled. The poor child spent time in jail, although the reporter called it "detention".

First off, she's Latina, and I'm willing to bet this kind of thing doesn't happen to Anglo little girls.

Second, we must be insane as a nation to think that 11 years old kids having a fight is a matter for the police to prosecute. Pick her up and take her to her parents for a scolding, sure. Round up the whole group of boys and give them a lecture about how people have a right to self-defense and if they get hurt, well, tough poopie? Sure. But to hold a child in detention for days and file felony assault charges is just ridiculous. It's insane. The child is already distorted for life by being arrested for defending herself and spending time in jail. I hope her parents sue the police department for psych damages, discrimination, violating her civil rights (self defense), and anything else their lawyer can think of.

The worst part of it is that this police action demeans the law and makes it meaningless. If a little girl throwing a stone at a group of tormentors in defense is a felonious assault, then just what do you call a mugging? What do you call a gang beating? What do you call it when a group of boys throws rocks instead of waterballoons without provocation? And what punishments do you hand out for those greater crimes ?

Meanwhile, we fail to get a cop to a shooting in less then 20 minutes, fail to stem the tide of crystal meth or cocaine, fail to keep drugs out of schools, and in general have so many of them sitting in airports (thanks a bunch George) that speed limits go virutally unenforced, and corporate executives are ripping off the nation for Billions. This nation is losing its collective mind. Our priorities are so messed up we can't even begin to think about getting them straight. Who would know where to begin? And this story of "overwhelming response" by the locals is just another example.

I can tell you right now that no police officer in San Diego would pull such an idiot stunt!
