No Gonzales hearing until Thursday...

From the NY Times Online:

WASHINGTON, April 16 — The Senate Judiciary Committee has postponed the hearing, originally set for Tuesday, in which Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales is to testify about the dismissals of eight United States attorneys.

The session was postponed because of the shootings at Virginia Tech and is now scheduled to begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m., said David Carle, a spokesman for Senator Patrick J. Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who heads the panel.

Mr. Carle said Senator Leahy and the committee’s ranking Republican, Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, decided to reschedule the hearing after conferring with Mr. Gonzales, who Mr. Leahy said may be preoccupied on Tuesday with matters related to the shootings. The hearing is considered an all-important chance for Mr. Gonzales to answer questions and clear up confusion over the dismissals of the prosecutors, which Democrats and Republicans alike say were mishandled.
