UN offers help..No US reply...

From UN Wire:

UN offers sympathy, help to Katrina-struck U.S.

The United Nations says it has offered the U.S. its help in dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but the U.S. has not yet requested any aid from the international body, said UN Undersecretary-General Jan Egeland, who also coordinated Indian Ocean tsunami relief efforts.

Egeland, who called the storm one of "the largest, most destructive natural disasters ever," also said, "there is of course an enormous wave of sympathy from all over the world."
