Years ago, I read Greg Bear' book Eon. He was billed as one of the best hard sci-fi writers and I had to agree. It was a fantastic novel that I wish they would oneday adapt into a movie. The sequel Eternity was good also, though not quite as good. Books like Bear's brought sci-fi to new heights.

Not only is Greg a fine writer, he is also a great guy, as is David Brin. Have known them both for a long time, and they're very serious about their writing and science. Brin has a blog that's both fun and interesting. Check him out at http://davidbrin.com Think you'll enjoy.
