More on Obama & McCain at La Raza conv in San Diego...

Note: The Secret Service folks have been here, checking out the San Diego Convention Center on Harbor Drive, for several days now. I would expect that they're a bit nervous since this event is "Open To The Public", and protesters are expected. We'll see how it all shakes out.

From San Diego Downtown News:

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, has announced that presumptive presidential nominees Sens. Barak Obama and John McCain will speak at the this year’s NCLR conference, scheduled July 12 to 15 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Obama (D., Ill.) and McCain (R., Ariz.) will address the single largest gathering of its kind in the Latino community. More than 20,000 corporate and community organization leaders, elected and appointed officials, academicians, students and youth are expected to participate in workshops centered on education, workforce development, wealth-building, voting, juvenile justice, children’s health, immigration policy and nonprofit management.

Other speakers will include San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and motivational speaker Samuel Betances.

“NCLR is excited to be in San Diego as we celebrate 40 years of strengthening America by promoting the advancement of Latino families,” NCLR President Janet Murguia said in a statement. “The presumptive presidential nominees and other government and business leaders speaking at NCLR’s annual conference will address a Latino community that is strengthening its political voice and engaging in campaigns, voter registration and citizenship drives as never before.”
