Health care in Canada...

From a cousin in Canada:

Yes we have socialized medicine here in Canada. Yes, and we like it, and I guess we should as it seems that we don't pay very much for it, considering what we get. We used to have to pay Blue Cross which we don't anymore. I think because of our age, but we have to pay from 10 to 50% for prescription drugs.

But when you look at it from another point of view, let not kid our selves, did you ever get anything for nothing? I don't think so. Someone is paying for it, and that's the working man. We are taxed to death here. In some cases we have tax on tax. It sounds good and looks good, ( but ).

And there are things about it that I don't understand and never will. The Alberta goverment sent me a bill for 6,400.00 dollars about two years ago. I held off and I didn't pay it. Then I got a letter saying they were reassing my status. The next thing I got was a letter saying that I didn't have to pay it, without any further explanation, and I don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

This system was voted in by a Socialist party here and is the only good part of their platform. There is some misuse of this system and that's understandable.

Any citizen can go to emergency at the hospital and be admitted, without putting up a dime. Saturday nights are busy nights.

Wrap...

In many ways, that echoes the sentiments of the few others I've heard. In general they said, "it might not be perfect, but at least we know we have health care that we couldn't afford otherwise. And we would rather stand in a long line for healthcare than have none at all."

Thanks for getting the info, Watch N' Wait. It is interesting to hear the opinions of those who know what it's like.
