Letter from the Heartland...

Don't think people across the nation aren't paying attention to the Downing St Memo. Don't think they don't know that Bush has committed an impeachable offense. Take a look at this letter to the DeKalb Daily Chronicle, DeKalb, Illinois:

Actions of Bush & Co. merit close attention

A month ago the minutes of a July 2002 meeting between British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his advisers were published in articles in the Sunday Times and the London Times. Known now as the "Downing Street Minutes," they are the official minutes of a top-level government meeting, and they contain damning evidence of the Bush administration's intent to invent justification for waging war in Iraq.

Misleading Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war is a high crime under our Constitution. Congress should immediately order a formal investigation into the matter.

I wasn't born yesterday. I know that, even if sufficient grounds exist for proceeding with the "I" word (impeachment), that particular course is unlikely at this point. Republicans rule Congress, and even if they didn't, the Democrats haven't yet developed the testicular fortitude required to "git 'r done."

But what's right is right, and the least we can do is to create a clamor that leaves no doubt of our thirst for the truth. It also can't hurt to put Bush & Co. on notice that many of us are paying very close and questioning attention to everything they say and do.
