Replay Vietnam...

CRAWFORD, Texas

Anti-war protesters camping out near President Bush's ranch are getting support from a prominent figure in the anti-Vietnam war movement: folk singer Joan Baez.Baez is planning a free concert in Bush's adopted hometown tonight that's expected to draw more than one-thousand people. It's being held on a one-acre lot offered by a landowner who opposes the war.
Not far away, protesters are continuing a camp-out started by grieving Vacaville mother, Cindy Sheehan. Sheehan's son -- Army Specialist Casey Sheehan -- died last year in Iraq.

Meanwhile, more Bush supporters have been arriving at a downtown pro-Bush camp. As of this afternoon, more than 150 people had visited "Fort Qualls."

The camp is named for Marine Lance Corporal Louis Wayne Qualls, who was killed in Fallujah last fall.

Just thought I'd check back in to see how you were doing. Can't tell. Hope your roof is still mended and the food is still good. Cate

Well, hi, Cate! The new metal roof is just terrific, and the food is still great down at the hotel patio. So, happily, is the company of the other writers who show up, though quite a few are traveling around. Vacation time, you know. Had occasion to use a cell phone last week for the first time. Used one of the hotel staff's. I refuse to own one of the damned things. Much prefer to travel around town anonymously. How are things with you?

Glad to hear everything is going well.

It's been a busy summer with the grandkids on vacation. I hate to say it but I'm very thankful for school starting again.

Hope to get some writing, art, and home improvement projects done now.

Take care. Cate

Parents used to gather in the driveway and drink champagne to celebrate the kids off to school. It's the only way to go!
